Dr. Zhongming Chen received his PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, where his doctoral research focused on the mechanisms of platelet activation and apoptosis.
In July 2012, he joined Dr. Dana Devine’s laboratory at the Centre for Blood Research, University of British Columbia and Canadian Blood Services, as a postdoctoral fellow. His postdoctoral work investigated the impact of pathogen inactivation treatment on platelet in vitro quality. After training, Dr. Chen continued his research under Dr. Devine’s guidance, focusing on red cell and platelet biology and supporting in vitro quality assessment of novel blood products and processes.
In 2025, Dr. Chen’s became a development scientist with Canadian Blood Services’ netCAD group. In this role, he is applying his technical and analytical expertise to product and process development work that supports advances in blood and blood components.
