There are so many ways to experience what you get when you give. Becoming an advocate is another impactful way to amplify Canada’s Lifeline. 

Use your voice to raise awareness, share important information and shatter misconceptions.

Be an advocate for blood and plasma donation

Why it’s important

Blood and blood products are used for everything from regular medical procedures to emergencies. 
A strong supply means blood is available for every patient who needs it.  

Plasma is collected for two purposes: for transfusions in urgent situations to treat conditions like liver failure or used to make medications to treat conditions including immune disorders. 

Content you can share:
  • 1 in 2 people in Canada are eligible to donate, yet only 1 in 76 do.
  • One donation can save up to 3 lives. (It changes lives, yours included!)
  • Right now, 70% of a lifesaving 
plasma-based medication 
called immunoglobulins comes 
mainly from the United States. 
Help boost Canada’s supply!
  • Canadian Blood Services needs 
1 million new donors by 2030 to keep Canada’s Lifeline strong.     




Be an advocate for stem cell and cord blood donation

Why it’s important

Stem Cells
Most people relying on a lifesaving stem cell transplant will be matched with an unrelated donor. If you’re between the ages of 17-35 you can join the Registry with a simple cheek swab.  

Cord Blood
After a baby is born, parents can donate cord blood which is rich in stem cells that can be used to treat a number of diseases and conditions.  

Content you can share:
  • Joining the Stem Cell Registry is painless and can be done at home with a free swab kit.
  • Stem cell matches are more likely for those with shared ancestry or ethnic background.
  • Donating cord blood doesn’t 
impact birth plans, it adds to your birth story!
  • Parents in Ottawa, Brampton, 
Edmonton and Vancouver can donate cord blood at select hospitals.  




Be an advocate for organ and tissue donation

Why it’s important

Living donation 

A living donor can save or improve the life of someone waiting for a kidney. It’s an incredible gift that leaves you forever connected to something bigger than yourself.

Deceased donation 

A single organ donor has the potential to give as many as 8 organs for transplant. That’s why it’s so important to register your intent to donate!

  • Thousands of people in Canada are waiting for an organ or tissue donation.
  • 90% of people in Canada are in favour of donating organs, yet only 32% say they’ve registered their intent to donate.
  • Donating organs and tissue is a powerful legacy.

Canada needs to reach 1 million new donors by 2030 to reach the growing need and to keep Canada’s Lifeline 
strong. Help spread the word and encourage people to book a donation appointment.
