Nursing Officer

I’m a Canadian Forces member and my involvement with Canadian Blood Services started with the Walking Blood donors in Kandahar, Afghanistan: we took blood from pre-screened Forces members and gave it to those in need at the Role 3 hospital. I started giving blood near Remembrance Day last year, feeling a sense of duty and wanting to help with the common good. Blood connects me to my deployment history and my work as a RN today. Makes me happy to be part of a larger organization that helps both in my clinical role and the public at large.

Editor’s note: you can learn more about blood in war zones, including the Walking Donor program, in this article.
