Moncton blood donor clinic cancelled

Moncton June 5, 2014 (CANADA) – Due to the developing situation in Moncton, New Brunswick Canadian Blood Services has cancelled clinics at 500 Mapleton Road in Moncton until further notice. Given the close proximity of the clinic to the lockdown zone our priority is ensuring the safety of our staff, donors and volunteers. Clinics in Saint John and Fredericton will continue as usual.

Canadian Blood Services extends our sympathies to the families of RCMP officers lost in the line of duty and to others affected by the tragedy in Moncton. Our thoughts are also with members of the RCMP, other police departments and all emergency service workers who are working to bring this situation to a close.

We want to assure residents that this situation does not affect our ability to provide blood products to area hospitals. Every minute of every day, someone in Canada needs blood—in most cases, blood from more than just one generous donor. A strong national inventory of blood helps us to deal with situations such as this one.

We will continue to monitor the situation in the coming days and provide updates.

Canadian Blood Services is reaching out to donors with appointments who are affected by the cancellation to reschedule.

We encourage donors from across the country to consider booking an appointment to give blood. You can do so by calling 1 888 2 DONATE or by visiting www.blood.ca.
