Canadian Blood Services Releases A Report to Canadians 2011/2012: The Bigger Picture

On Thursday, September 27th, Canadian Blood Services presented its 2011/2012 annual report, A Report to Canadians, to the Ministers of Health at their annual general meeting in Halifax, N.S.

The report highlights achievements and initiatives that were launched to support our overall commitment to deliver quality health-care services safely and reliably. To this end, after reviewing the activities and highlights of the past year, the report was organized into six key priority areas:

• Focus on quality
• Productivity in perspective
• Finding the right match
• A vision of cooperation
• A framework for action
• Looking for a better way

Highlights from the past year include: the collection of 1,008,848 units of blood from 419, 422 active blood donors, the growth in the number of OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network registrants to 320, 948; the facilitation of 57 kidney transplants since the launch of the Living Donor Paired Exchange Registry and our commitment to raise $12.5 million for the new, national public cord blood bank.
