New name, same registry

Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry part of Canada’s Lifeline

APRIL 2, 2019 (OTTAWA)—Canadian Blood Services is pleased to announce that the official name for the system we use to match registered stem cell donors with patients in-need, is being changed to Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry. Effective as of April 2019, the transition to a new name will take place over a 1-year period.

The name and visuals associated with Canada’s stem cell registry are evolving to better align with the renewed brand promise to Canadians that was initiated in Sept. 2018.  What was previously called the OneMatch Stem Cell and Marrow Network will be known from now on as Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry.

“Donors who registered under the former name are still registered,” explained Heidi Elmoazzen, Director, Stem Cells. “And our commitment to providing quality service for patients from around the world seeking a stem cell match, will continue.”

Public polling shows that many Canadians are unaware that Canada’s national stem cell registry is operated by Canadian Blood Services. The new name: Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry, serves as a reminder to Canadians that registering to donate stem cells is one of many ways they can support patients through Canada’s biological lifeline.
