Dr. Tanya Petraszko

Vice President, Medical Affairs

In this role, Tanya leads all the medical functions of the blood supply and laboratories. She also oversees the testing, stem cell and organ and tissue donation teams and programs as well as Canadian Blood Services’ formulary for plasma, protein and related products.  

Tanya received her medical degree at the University of Western Ontario and completed fellowships in Internal Medicine and Hematology at the University of British Columbia. She has further training and expertise in transfusion and apheresis medicine and practised at Vancouver Hospital prior to her gradual transition to medical administration.  

She is an associate clinical professor at UBC in the division of hematology in the department of medicine and has been an author on numerous peer-reviewed articles. She has also served as medical director for the BC Provincial Blood Coordinating Office and program director for the UBC Royal College Area of Focused Competency in Transfusion Medicine. 

Over the past 25 years she has held several medical and leadership positions at Canadian Blood Services, most recently as senior medical director where she was accountable for the medical and laboratory services and the stem cell program. 

Tanya has held various board positions including with the Canadian Society for Transfusion Medicine and more recently, the United Chinese Community Enrichment Services Society in British Columbia.
