Journey to motherhood

What had been a healthy and uneventful pregnancy quickly turned into a chaotic birth story in July 2023. When my baby descended onto his cord, putting him into distress, I was rushed into the OR for an emergency c-section, where my healthy boy was born. Little did anyone know, I went into the recovery room with an internal abdominal bleed. The last thing I remembered was being prepped for a CT-scan in Truro. A day or so later, I woke up to my family's worried faces in an ICU in Halifax. I later learned that the bleeding had caused a rare and often fatal disorder called disseminated intravascular coagulation. Thanks to the countless blood products I received and the experienced health professionals who treated me, my family and I are thriving two years later.

This past week, I competed my 15th blood donation. What a privilege to be able to give back to the community who helped save my life!
Please, never for a moment, think that your donation isn't important - it could very well allow a new mom to be present for her child.
