New virtual recruitment and onboarding tools: During the COVID-19 pandemic, recruitment and onboarding of new employees has been conducted virtually to protect our teams and our essential operations. Many of us have adjusted to virtual meetings, however having a successful interview through a screen poses different challenges than our day-to-day work. From technical issues to trouble reading body language — virtual recruitment can pose some unforeseen challenges in getting the right candidate for the position. Our talent acquisition team has prepared some tools to help both hiring managers and applicants have a successful virtual interview and onboarding process. Now available on Connect, hiring managers can access guides, including tips for virtual interviewing and utilizing MS Teams for recruitment. Once a new hire is made, a virtual onboarding guide is also available. Ensure you and new applicants have a rewarding interview and onboarding experience by heading over to Connect.
Cancer survivor celebrates second anniversary of stem cell cure: In his early 50s, Carl Pendleton was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome, a condition that impairs the body’s ability to produce healthy blood cells. Carl underwent treatment — chemotherapy, along with blood and platelet transfusions – but the disease progressed to leukemia. Without stem cells from a matched donor, Carl had little chance of surviving. Carl’s luck turned when Canadian Blood Services Stem Cell Registry identified a match and a transplant restored him to health. To mark the second anniversary of the transplant, Carl will mail a letter to the anonymous donor who gave him a new lease on life. “It would be an honour to meet the man, shake his hand and thank him”. We are excited to share that the 2020/2021 service awards will launch the week of August 17!
Our service awards program recognizes the dedication and commitment of employees who reach service milestones with the organization at five-year increments. With each milestone, recipients receive a certificate of recognition and are eligible to receive a thank you gift for their contribution to Canadian Blood Services.
Although our celebrations look a little different this year, we are excited to adapt and take some time to recognize the excellence and dedication of our teams. This year, gifts and certificates will be shipped to recipient’s homes, our celebrations will be held virtually, and we will be leveraging a new social media platform to make it easy for you to celebrate your team members on your own social networks!
