Installation of physical barriers: We have implemented physical barriers where two metre distancing is not possible. Plexiglass barriers are now in place for most active wellness checks, reception areas and screening booths. If you are an affected employee, you are encouraged to speak to your supervisor should you have questions about barrier installation at your site.
Young volunteers step up during COVID-19: Many donor centre volunteers are older and more vulnerable to the COVID-19 virus. That’s led many to take a break from volunteering outside the home. Three siblings from Charlottetown, P.E.I. are among the younger dedicated volunteers who are stepping in to fill this vital gap. Alexa, Riley and Racheal MacKay are students who aspire to work in health care — just like their parents. “Mom and Dad are on the front lines every day, so we decided we should be there too,” said Alexa. Employees share inspiring stories of organ donation: For Jenn and Sarah, spreading awareness about the need for organs and tissue donations hits close to home. They both made the selfless decision to become living organ donors after someone close to them required life-saving treatments. One girl’s mission to save her brother: Abby’s story serves to remind us that what we do matters. At just 11 years old, she didn’t expect to be her younger brother’s stem cell donor, but the pandemic forced a change of plans. She hopes not only to help her brother, but to inspire more adults in Canada to join the stem cell registry. Transplant centres in Canada are counting more than ever on Canadian donors due to travel restrictions which disrupt the transport of stem cells internationally. Reminder, quick check-in on your wellbeing: Understanding how we can support you and put your wellbeing first is a priority of our organization. CBS leadership is encouraging employees to complete a brief survey (one minute) so we can make meaningful adjustments to create a safe environment for you while continuing to support donors and patients through the pandemic. The link to the survey will remain active until Monday, April 27 at 12 p.m. ET.
