How to safely wear a mask: Please review our guidelines for step-by-step instructions on how to safely put on and remove protective face masks. It is important to remember that masks only work when they are dry. If the mask becomes wet or damp, please replace it. If you are working in a collections event, Public Health Agency of Canada guidelines advise that you do not need to change masks between each donor. Employees are welcome to wear their own surgical mask to work if they choose. If you have further questions on the use of personal protective equipment, check out our dedicated PPE page for more information.
The need goes on — #TogetherApart: The hashtag describes the spirit that Canadians need to get through this pandemic. A donation event organized by Abdelsalam Abugharara in St. John’s embodied that spirit perfectly. From his home, he recruited seven others from the Muslim community to join him in giving blood while respecting the need for physical distancing. He hopes to organize another event each week for as long as the pandemic continues — a task that can be challenging as people are fearful to leave their homes. Wellness Wednesday: Over the past few weeks, many of us have found ourselves with more “free” time than ever before — but it sometimes feels more difficult than ever to stop and make time for self-care. This week’s wellness champion is here to guide you through a short mindfulness meditation that you can easily incorporate into your day. Christina Warrysh is a certified counsellor, wellness specialist and HR representative at Canadian Blood Services. In this week’s video, she will help you step into a space of self-care and connect you with the present and your feelings through a practical, five-minute meditation called the S.T.O.P practice for stress.
