Elianna Saidenberg Transfusion Medicine Traineeship Award

The Canadian Blood Services Elianna Saidenberg Transfusion Medicine Traineeship Award provides funding for physician trainees accepted to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Area of Focused Competence (AFC)-diploma program in transfusion medicine. Information on the AFC-diploma program in transfusion medicine can be found on the Canadian Blood Services Professional Education website at professionaleducation.blood.ca.

The objective of the Elianna Saidenberg Transfusion Medicine Traineeship Award is to build a community of experts that will ensure the relevance and safety of the blood system for now and the years to come. Through this traineeship award, Canadian Blood Services provides, on a competitive basis, salary and travel funding to a maximum of two trainees per year.

In 2020, Canadian Blood Services renamed its Transfusion Medicine Traineeship Award to the Elianna Saidenberg Transfusion Medicine Traineeship Award in honour of Dr. Elianna Saidenberg. Dr. Elianna Saidenberg was a hematologist, patient rights advocate, mentor, and teacher. Her thoughtful and impactful contributions to the field of transfusion medicine were numerous and spanned transfusion medicine practice, research and education.

Next Competition: Canadian Blood Services provides application forms to Program Directors who must submit completed applications by September 30, 2020. Please download the Award Guidelines for details and note that trainees interested in this award opportunity must contact Program Directors well ahead of this deadline. In general, Program Directors make decisions in August. Program Directors are identified at professionaleducation.blood.ca.
