Post Natal Testing - Rh Negative Mothers

Test description

Post-natal (post-partum) testing consists of ABO and RhD blood group, antibody screen and fetal bleed screen test on all Rh negative women who have delivered an Rh positive infant. A Kleihauer-Betke Quantitative test for fetal bleeding is performed on all positive fetal bleed screen tests. The Kleihauer-Betke test is required to quantitate the volume of fetal-maternal hemorrhage and determine the amount of Rh Immune Globulin (RhIG) needed to prevent alloimmunization. RhIG recommendations are made.
