Canadian Blood services provides screening of pregnant women for blood type and red cell antibodies to assist health care providers in ensuring appropriate management of a pregnancy for both the mother and the baby.

1 EDTA (6 or 7mL) Requisition: Perinatal Screen Request form (PDF) Forward for testing as soon as possible
  • Perinatal red cell antibody identification
    • ABO/Rh
    • Antibody investigation
    • Maternal phenotype
    • Titration if applicable
3 EDTA (6 or 7mL) Requisition: Perinatal Screen Request form (PDF) Indicate Diagnostic Services reference number. Forward for testing as soon as possible
  • Perinatal paternal testing Fathers – when specifically requested by Canadian Blood
    • ABO / Rh
    • Phenotype
1 EDTA (6 or 7mL) Requisition:Perinatal Screen Request form (PDF) Indicate mother’s name and reference number. Forward for testing as soon as possible
  • Perinatal cord blood testing– when specifically requested by Canadian Blood Services

    • DAT
