New plasma donor centre coming to Ontario in Q3 of fiscal year 2023–2024
As we get ready to open the doors to three new plasma donor centres in British Columbia and Ontario next year, we are now able to share where we will start collecting plasma next. We will open a new dedicated plasma donor centre in Windsor, Ont., in Q3 of fiscal year 2023–2024. The new Windsor location will build on the successes we’ve had in opening five plasma donor centres since 2020. After careful review of our collection programs for both plasma and blood, we have made the difficult decision to close the Windsor blood donor centre and discontinue mobile donation events in the area. Celebrating the stories that bring our quality policy to life
What do bedazzled blood bags, suspicious specimens, and screening dilemmas have in common? They’re all scenarios our teams have faced — real-world examples of our quality policy in action — that have been turned into teachable stories found under the Quality Matters banner. This World Quality Week, we’re celebrating those stories and the important role we all play as part of Canada’s Lifeline. Quality Matters stories showcase how our teams apply these pillars, and our ICARE values of integrity, collaboration, adaptability, respect and excellence, to respond to events and challenges that arise in the course of their work. Blood donors in Canada help break world record
Blood donors in Canada helped break the world record for the largest-ever blood drive, an event organized earlier this year by Who is Hussain, an international organization based in the U.K. The event brought together donors from 27 countries, who made more than 37,000 blood donations in a single day. Donors in Canada participated through a national Canadian Blood Services Partners for Life team. These teams provide a powerful way for any individual, organization or community group to support patients. The Who is Hussain team, started by some passionate volunteers, organized events in 16 cities across Canada and donated an impressive 440 units of blood and plasma, including contributions from 300 first-time donors. Question of the day
On any given week there are roughly 40-50 job postings on the Careers page, with new postings added almost daily. Has there been any consideration given to identifying which of those positions are newly created positions, as opposed to an opening due to someone leaving the role?
The vacancies available are a mix of positions; some are new, some need to be re-filled and some have been modified. For example, we are currently posting for new positions within our new plasma centres in St. Catharines, Ont., Vaughan, Ont., and Abbotsford, B.C. Occasionally, when an employee leaves the organization, that position may be modified to better reflect the needs of the team it serves, or we may replace a part-time position with a full-time position. Normally approximately 90 per cent of posted opportunities are for “replacement” positions, however this is always in flux. Due to constant FTE changes, it would be difficult to identify which positions are new or replacements in each individual posting.
