Watch: What it’s like to be the CEO of Canadian Blood Services for a day
University student Angelique Jeanty joined Canadian Blood Services for a day in early March through a program called CEOx1Day. This global initiative, run by Odgers Berndston, gives carefully selected students the opportunity to shadow senior executives. Our CEO, Dr. Graham Sher, participated for the first time this year, and he was thrilled to take Angelique behind the scenes at head office for meetings with the executive management team and more. Read Angelique’s blog post and watch the video that captures the day of mentorship on Connect.
Changes to reporting COVID-19-related absences
As an organization, we are continuing to review the processes put in place to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of that work, the COVID-19 case management process has recently been reviewed, and it has been determined that it is no longer necessary for employees or supervisors to specifically report positive COVID-19 cases. Instead, moving forward, absences related to COVID-19 should be treated as any other medical absence. Learn more on Connect and speak with your EHS team at EHS@blood.ca if you have specific questions.
New cybersecurity training for all employees
‘Focus on facts, not hacks’, a new training module for all employees, has been uploaded to LMS Success Factors. Human error plays a key part in 95 per cent of cybersecurity breaches. This module demonstrates how easy it is to fall victim to hackers who prey on our emotions, or who take advantage of us when we are distracted or inattentive to details. Please find time to participate in this 15-minute training as all employees are required to complete it by May 8, 2023.
Trans Day of Visibility: Resources to support trans employees, volunteers and donors
The International Trans Day of Visibility is an annual event occurring on March 31, dedicated to celebrating trans people and raising awareness of discrimination faced by transgender people worldwide. Part of Canadian Blood Services’ broader commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) involves advancing trans inclusion and investing in targeted supports for 2SLGBTQIA+ employees. To help foster more inclusive and psychologically safe spaces, the DEI team has co-created this guide in partnership with some of our trans and gender diverse colleagues. The guide aims to prepare employees to have respectful conversations with trans and gender diverse employees, volunteers and donors and to become better advocates and allies for all members of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. If you have questions or require any further information, please email DEI@blood.ca.
