Update on the Voluntary Blood Donations Repeal Act in Alberta: A private member’s bill was introduced in the Alberta legislature on July 8 to repeal the Voluntary Blood Donations Act in that province. This legislation bans payment to donors and advertising for paid donations.
Yesterday, Graham appeared before the Alberta legislature to share our perspective on this matter. He called for a broader dialogue with the ministers of health, so we can better understand the implications of commercial plasma collection in Canada and agree, as a country, on how we should or could approach it.
He discussed how we're responsible for meeting the needs of patients who require life-saving medications that are made from different proteins in plasma, and why increasing commercial collections will not ensure Canada’s plasma supply. He also shared our plans to increase the amount of plasma we collect from voluntary donors in Canada, and how this will help ensure a secure domestic supply to manufacture into plasma protein products.

Question of the day: Paying this much attention to diversity and this survey will just divide us all and create fractures. Why aren’t we focused on what unites us all?
We wish that we could focus only on those things we have in common and especially things that unite us, but we know that people are treated differently because of who they are, what they look like, their role, and their background. So, until employees feel that their experiences are acknowledged and understood, we need to take some time to understand each of us as individuals.
The ultimate purpose of our diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and this survey is to create a more equitable and inclusive organization so that those who are impacted by different types of bias and discrimination can thrive. Your participation in this assessment will help this work.
