2022 employee survey results are now available
In January 2022, employees across the organization were invited to share their feedback through our joint employee experience and brand health surveys. More than 70 per cent of employees participated in the surveys, sharing their insights on a broad range of topics including workload, inclusion, psychological safety, employee engagement and brand understanding. The key findings and highlights from both surveys are now available for employees to view and discuss with their leaders. Leadership teams are continuing to review and analyze the results and find ways to address employee concerns and areas where improvement is needed. The organization will also look for ways to celebrate employee successes and achievements and is committed to identifying ongoing opportunities to improve employee experience. Review the key highlights from the surveys on Connect and find the detailed results on the Employee Surveys page.
Green Shirt Day on April 7 continues the legacy that inspired a nation
On April 7, 2018, after learning that their son Logan would not recover from his injuries sustained in the tragic crash of the Humboldt Broncos team bus, Bernadine and Toby Boulet offered to donate his organs and tissues. That decision saved at least five lives and helped improve the lives of two others. Logan had previously registered as an organ donor and had spoken about his wishes with his family. Now, each year, Green Shirt Day honours Logan’s legacy by encouraging people to register to become organ donors and to make sure their loved ones know about their decision. Visit Connect to learn more about Logan and Green Shirt Day and explore our new organ and tissue donation portal.
Platelet donation is a lifestyle for this game-loving healer
When 26-year-old Max Proske rolled up his sleeve last November for his 100th donation of blood components, it marked an impressive milestone for such a young person. Max made his first blood donation at age 18. Then, after his 12th blood donation, he switched to donating platelets every two weeks — a commitment with an interesting tie to one of his favourite hobbies. “I also play a lot of online role-playing games, and in these video games I always play a cleric or healer,” he says. “Platelet donations are the closest thing I have to healing people in real life without going to medical school.” Read Max’s inspiring story at blood.ca/stories.
Travel booking authorization update
Our pandemic travel guidance was previously updated to allow for essential, necessary and important work-related travel, if approved by your vice-president (VP) or director. We are now at a phase of the pandemic where we can revert to pre-pandemic approval levels built into Concur, which generally align with your organizational reporting relationships. Effective immediately, it is no longer necessary to attach VP or director approval to your travel request. The updated Pandemic Travel Guidance can be found on Connect. If you have any questions, please reach out to the travel team at corporatecard@blood.ca.
Correction: Revised in-person meeting guidance
In Friday’s edition of Your Digest, we stated that remote employees would have access to meeting rooms at Canadian Blood Services sites starting April 1. This is not accurate, and we apologize for any confusion. The Return to Office team is developing a booking system to accommodate meeting room requests which will be launched on April 18. In the interim, if you are working remotely and an onsite meeting space is required, you must email ask.facilities@blood.ca and they will work with you to safely book an appropriate meeting room. Please refer to the new guidelines posted on Connect.
Question of the Day: What is Connect on the Go?
Over the past several months, our communications and IT teams collaborated to create a new web-based app, Connect on the Go, that gives employees a quick and easy way to access news, resources, inspiring stories, event recordings and other important information as quickly and effectively as possible. Released for download in March 2022, it is a desktop and mobile app that offers an easy-to-access portal, allowing employees to access what they need without having to log in to the Virtual Private Network (VPN) or from a work device. The app’s key goal is to help improve communications with frontline and ‘on-the-go' employees. If you missed the latest town hall or educational event, you can explore the podcasts section of Connect on the Go. The app also hosts the latest frontline updates, Connect stories and health and wellness resources. If you haven’t downloaded Connect on the Go yet, it’s easy. Visit or download Connect on the Go today and start exploring!
