Daily COVID-19 digest
You asked, we answered — what you need to know about PPE: Over the past week, we received your questions and comments about our new PPE measures — in particular, mandatory masks. We have overhauled our dedicated PPE page to reflect the latest information, capture your feedback and provide answers. Thank you to everyone who took the time to ask questions on this topic through the live Q&A and our communications inbox. Did we miss something? Let us know at communications@blood.ca with the subject line “PPE”.
How to set up a temporary home office: While it can be easy for employees with the ability to work from home to get into a rut of working from your kitchen island or slumped on your couch, the toll on your body — especially your back — could be significant. Pivoting to home office can be difficult, especially when purchasing furniture and accessories to create an ergonomic workspace can be a challenge. For tips on creating a home workstation that won’t break the bank (or your back), visit the OHS ergonomics page and watch this series from LifeSpeak.
Some words of thanks from our donors: Our essential staff are on the frontlines every day because lives depend on it. We receive hundreds of notes of gratitude each week from donors after they have interacted with frontline employees and we think it’s important that you know how much of an impact you have made on them. Before you head into your weekend, please pause to read a small selection of their appreciation:
“The staff in Windsor was amazing and the nurse I had made sure I was comfortable and talked me through the entire process and was more than happy to answer any of my questions. A friend of mine posted on Instagram that it is still safe to donate during this pandemic, so I thought if I have all this time and are more than able to give something that does not even take away from me why would you not” (Windsor, ON)
“I had planned a spa day for my mom and daughter, but the COVID-19 pandemic cancelled that. I donated blood instead; the staff, volunteers and I had a great time as we “re-created” my spa experience complete with relaxing elevated donation chaise-lounge, ocean breeze-scented Lysol “aromatherapy” disinfecting wipes, spring water upon arrival, an artisanal “arm wrap” post-donation and more spring water and assorted “amuse-bouche” in the post donation relaxation area. The staff were amazing and consummately professional in a trying time. I always felt safe. I left feeling good, looking fabulous (of course) and knowing that I have done good. Another amazing experience!” (Vancouver, BC)
