We’re seeking a Plasma Nurse to join our Sudbury team.

Reporting to the Plasma Centre Manager, you will be responsible for performing assigned duties associated with the plasma donation and production process as defined by standard operating procedures. You will participate in projects/continuous improvement initiatives that contribute to the success of the program. In addition, you will act as an ambassador of the program, and promote and contribute to a collaborative and customer-centric work environment.  You will also act as a coach and resource to staff performing all operational functions related to the plasma donation process.

Responsibilities include:

Donation

  • Provides support to donor eligibility enquiries and/or donation criteria escalations
  • Monitors safety and status of donor during collection by assessing donor incidents and providing care and providing post-donation care and instructions as required
  • Ensures donor incidents are documented/reported and donor follow-up is completed
  • Assembles and prepares supplies, equipment and associated documentation required to expedite collection process
  • Greets and assists all plasma donors as they progress through the donation process in an engaging and positive manner
  • Assists with various recruitment/retention initiatives designed to further grow or engage the donor base
  • Assists with the registration process and responds to inquiries and concerns regarding plasma donation/process, etc.
  • Completes donor registration
  • Conducts confidential donor screening and obtains donor consent
  • Reviews donor responses on record of donation and completed documentation to support donor acceptance
  • Performs venepuncture according to established standards
  • Ensures information relevant to the donation process is recorded completely and accurately
  • Monitors donor for safety and comfort, provides post-donation care and instruction
  • Promotes a positive donor experience through exceptional customer service

Storage, Shipment & Critical Supplies

  • Ensures completeness of information in IT system for products and completes labeling process for products
  • Prepares product for freezing and monitors temperatures
  • Centrifuges product samples as per established procedures
  • Prepares product for shipment to fractionator and ensures documentation requirements and products meet specifications
  • Prepares product samples for shipment to testing facility
  • Ensures biohazard materials are stored and properly labelled for disposition and recycling
  • Monitors, and restocks critical supplies, and informs appropriate staff of requirement to reorder

Customer Service/Donor Experience

  • Promotes a positive experience through exceptional customer service throughout collection process and takes initiative to ensure that donors are engaged and that their needs are met
  • Assists with various recruitment/retention initiatives designed to further grow or engage the donor base
  • Builds relationships with donors and ensures the growth and maintenance of a high quality, committed donor base
  • Responds, takes initiative to provide feedback and solve issues which arise with donors and partners
  • Provides recommendations on strategies that would positively impact donor retention
  • Ensures that the donation centre appearance is kept to the highest standard

Continuous Improvement/Projects 

  • Contributes to a culture of continuous improvement with the donation centre
  • Contributes to the framework of continuous improvement and implementation of best practice standards with the team
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of an effective non-conformance program, which includes data collection and analysis, root cause analysis, monitoring of its effectiveness and recommending and implementing process improvement activities as needed
  • Contributes and participates in initiatives that promote employee engagement and team spirit

Performs other related duties as required.

Required skills:

Education, Training and Experience:

  • A licensed registered nurse, able to practice in the province of employment
  • A minimum of three years of progressive experience working with the public, particularly in a high customer-focussed environment
  • Experience with current Good Manufacturing Practices is an asset

Demonstrated Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates great ability to connect with clients and maintains a customize relationship with them
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Bilingualism is an asset
  • Adaptable, flexible and comfortable with frequent changes
  • Show demonstrated ability in continuous improvement practices
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team building and ability to collaborate in a multi- team setting
  • Must be detail-oriented and capable of working in a highly regulated environment
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet demands of the job
  • The ability to exercise judgment, tact, diplomacy and strict confidentiality are mandatory
  • Fosters and promotes a positive public image
  • Computer literacy required

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

What is the working language?

The working language at Canadian Blood Services is English. Some positions do have additional language requirements, other than English, and these requirements will be indicated on the job posting. Fluency in English is a bona fide occupational requirement for all positions.
