Each year during National Blood Donor Week (June 8–14, 2020) and World Blood Donor Day (June 14), we proudly recognize and celebrate the essential role volunteer donors play in strengthening Canada’s Lifeline. This year marks the 12th anniversary since the parliamentary legislation introduced by Senator Terry Mercer was enacted.
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March, National Blood Donor Week is taking place at a time that is anything but typical. Our heartfelt thanks to all donors and partners for bringing awareness to the importance of lifesaving blood donations during the COVID-19 pandemic and throughout the year.
Your blood donation matters, especially now. The need for blood is rising fast as hospitals resume procedures that were put on hold due to COVID-19. Let’s unite, celebrate blood donors in Canada and inspire others to become regular donors while helping to fill available appointments to meet patient needs.
A digital toolkit has been developed to help bring awareness to the importance of lifesaving blood donations across Canada.
You can inspire others to support patients through blood donation by sharing your story or reason for joining Canada’s Lifeline at blood.ca/reasons or on social media. Don’t forget to tag us @CanadasLifeline so we can like and share your posts and use the hashtags #CanadasLifeline #WhatsYourReason #NBDW2020 #WBDD.
Join us this week, this month and throughout the year to remind new and returning donors that their ongoing support for Canada’s Lifeline goes toward ensuring patients in Canada receive lifesaving support where and when they need it.
