Do I have to book an appointment to donate blood, or can I just show up at a clinic?

Appointments allow us to respect your time and we encourage donors to schedule an appointment in advance of the clinic. Why book ahead of time? You can choose a specific time and day that fits your schedule. Scheduled appointments also help us ensure an adequate supply of blood and blood products for patients in need.

We understand that not everyone is able to make an appointment. There are usually open appointments available, and many of our clinics do reserve some appointments to accommodate walk-ins. However, these timeslots can fill up quickly. If you do decide to drop in to donate, our clinic staff will advise you if there are openings in the clinic schedule.

How do I book an appointment?

There are two ways to book an appointment:

  1. By Telephone: Call us at 1 888 2 DONATE (1-888-236-6283), or
  2. In Person: Visit a local blood donor clinic.

Are donors with appointments given priority over walk-ins?

Yes, donors with appointments are placed in priority. However, you are welcome to walk in without an appointment and we will make every effort to accommodate you as space allows. With an appointment, you can expect to be in and out within an hour. Clinic staff will inform you at the start of the donation if your donation time is expected to be more than an hour.

If I just show up at a clinic, am I guaranteed a time to donate blood that day?

Most clinics leave a few appointments open to accommodate walk-ins. However, because these appointments can fill up quickly, we cannot always guarantee there will be an opening. Staff at the clinic can advise you if there are openings available.

If I book an appointment, am I guaranteed that time?

Yes, we do our best to honour your appointment time. There are occasional instances when our clinics experience situations beyond our control. If there will be a delay, you will be informed when you arrive at the clinic. We strive to keep a smooth clinic flow so that donors are in and out within an hour.

Will you still accommodate me if I’m a few minutes late?

If you arrive late for your appointment, we will do our best to accommodate you if space is available. To ensure a smooth clinic flow, we ask that you arrive on time for your appointment.

Do I need to call you if I need to cancel?

Yes, please call us! We’d be more than happy to help you rebook a more convenient time. As well, by rebooking, you are helping us to fill your original time slot with another donor. If you can’t make your appointment please notify us as soon as possible by calling
1-888 2 DONATE (1 888 236-6283).

Thank you for making a difference in someone else’s life!
